Whose “Transhumanism”?
Protect humanity from ideologies. And, replace ideologies with non-dogmatic, evidence based, reason-responsive research and development programs. Transhuman Studies emerges from the fray of transhumanisms, but aims even beyond debate to beyond the improvement from feminisms to Gender Studies. Instead Transhuman Studies is a novel four part enterprise that analyzes, experiments, invents, and plays. It comprises:
- Humanities
- Sciences
- Engineering &
- Art
Whereas Gender Studies succeeds in transforming a disarray of feminisms and queer theories into an epistemically virtuous academic research program. That program at best produces papers, degrees, and policies; and very rarely ventures into the lab, the studio, or the workshop. Transhuman Studies is a tinkering discipline– with hactivist ambitions–the physical reconfiguration of us. To precipitate the right interventions from foggy yearnings, Transhuman Studies requires philosophical debate, but also reciprocal contact with empirical arts, deliberate technological creation and artistic rejuvenations. Here Gender Studies as ordinarily practiced could learn from us. Transhuman Studies is not just about ideas, it is about remaking.
TranshumanStudies is the critical superset of Transhumanism, it encompasses the many transhumanisms, and their detractors, into an explicitly interdisciplinary research program.

These topic are too important for ideological tribalism and many who identify as transhumanists are not the dogmatic sort. Hence, transhumanists welcome turning movements into open research programs.
Our mission is similar, but not identical, to the progress made creating Gender Studies to examine the many feminisms and queer movements.
However, an ambition to pursue a multi-disciplinary project including science, engineering and art constitutes a critical difference with practiced Gender Studies. TranshumanStudies has four parts, three beyond mere socio-philosophical analysis, and marks an elimination of the gap between theory and instantiation in its name. TranshumanStudies will do the remaking, not just debate it.
